Breathe Into Autumn: A 47-Minute Yoga Practice for the Lungs and Heart Space.
Autumn is the season of the lungs. This 47-minute restorative yoga practice gives them space: deep belly breathing, gentle side-body openers and supported chest opening, finishing with humming vibration around the heart to support the ventral vagal “safe and settled” state.
We move from diaphragmatic breathing through Cat and Cow, Thread the Needle, Puppy and Sphinx, into a long side-lying lung breathing practice, then supported Bridge, before resting in Savasana and closing with Om.
In Polyvagal Theory, the ventral vagal pathway links the heart with the throat and voice, which is why humming can feel so calming.
Slow, steady and kind. Suitable for all levels.
You’ll need
A mat, a bolster, two blankets, a cushion to support head and neck, and somewhere warm and quiet.
